About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Research Assistant to join the Department of Genetics, Genomics and Cancer Sciences at the University of Leicester. This full-time, fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in Cancer Precision Medicine, focusing on liquid biopsy-based biomarkers and multi-omics approaches in breast cancer. You will be part of a dynamic team at the Leicester Cancer Research Centre, working on projects involving microfluidic-based enrichment of circulating tumour cells (CTCs), genomic analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs), and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) methylation signatures.

Your role will involve the coordination between clinical and research teams, ensuring smooth sample collection and processing. You will also support hands-on laboratory research, including cell culture, and application of molecular biology techniques such as NGS library preparation, qPCR, and ddPCR. As part of a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, you will have the opportunity to participate in lab meetings, workshops, and conferences, contributing to the dissemination of impactful research findings.

About you

You will hold a BSc or MSc in biological sciences or a related field and bring experience in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR-based techniques, and next-generation sequencing. A strong understanding of regulatory requirements, particularly those related to the Human Tissue Act, is essential. You will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple research tasks, and committed to maintaining high laboratory standards.

You will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to professional development. Experience with liquid biopsy methodologies and clinical study support would be advantageous.
