Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Finance team as our Finance Officer. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, working flexibly between home and our office in Selly Oak, Birmingham.
Sense provides a range of support services for people with complex disabilities including residential, supported living and day services. We are commissioned by over 100 local authorities and clinical commissioning groups across the UK
The finance officer will work as part of the Finance Team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organisations financial information through the accurate recording of financial transactions on a timely basis.
The successful candidate will be supporting colleagues across Sense to ensure the financial health of the organisation by advising on how to operate within set finance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for collecting payments, daily cash posting, allocation and input tocomputerised accounts system
- To process ad-hoc payments in line with authorisation limits and finance procedures
- To support the procurement team with managing day to day banking and credit card activities
- Funder account management and regular account reconciliations on complex aged debt accounts
- Raising regular, reoccurring and one off invoices
- To identify income accruals/received in advanced and assist with preparation of journals in line with monthly timetable
- Proactively call funders early in the cash collection cycle to confirm receipt of invoices and / or identify any disputes preventing payment. Resolving disputes in an efficient and effective manner.
Key skills and experience
- Recent experience of undertaking a similar role
- Experience analysing and diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions
- Experience of building excellent working relationships with internal colleagues and external agencies to ensure team objectives are met.
- Experience of using finance software
- Experience of resolving issues independently, taking ownership as problems arise and exercising judgement in referring issues to colleagues
- Experience of challenging current ways of working, making recommendations to improve processes and ensuring that any changes are implemented by all involved
