Communications Business Partner

Balfour Beatty are currently looking for a Communications Business Partner to join our Enabling Functions - Communications team based in Derby.
Within this role you'll provide mid to senior level communications advice and work with Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and Business Unit (BU) leaders to enable development and delivery of an effective communications strategy for their business(es)
Please Note: Due to the nature of the role, you will need to hold a full driving licence.
What you'll be doing
As a key member of the Group Communications team, the scope of this role includes, but is not limited to, the duties described below:
- Set, deliver and measure a creative, clear and impactful communication strategy for each business unit that reaches a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Provide advice and support on all communications issues
- Work with senior leaders to define messaging and align communications outputs to business unit objectives – ensuring that business unit and corporate messaging is aligned and complementary
- Work collaboratively with, and draw on expertise from, the Group Communications teams to deliver internal and external outputs outlined in each business unit communications plan
- Pro-actively identify potential news stories that can be used across Group channels to enhance Balfour Beatty’s strategic positioning and have awareness to flag potential operational issues that could result in reputational risk
- Oversee processes to ensure there is a regular pipeline of content for internal communications channels, ensuring it’s on brand, accurate, and signed off by appropriate stakeholders
- Draft and ensure appropriate approvals for senior leader and business unit messaging for use across a range of internal channels.
- Support the delivery of business unit and Group-wide conferences, events, campaigns and business engagement and/or transformational change programmes
- Work with Work Winning teams to coordinate case studies that highlight key strategic positioning themes such as industry leading capability, sustainability, innovation and engineering expertise
Who we're looking for
You'll have/be:
Essential:
- Experience of operating effectively in complex organisational structures with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication craft skills and technical knowledge of channel frameworks
- Strong relationship building with good networking and interpersonal skills
- Strong copywriting capability with an eye for what makes a good, engaging story that will appeal across our stakeholder base
- Team player with ability to work with individuals across multiple geographical locations
- Adapts positively to changing business demands
- Good understanding of the regulatory environment and financial calendar communications
- A passion for, and understanding of, industry issues and the national news agenda
- A clean driving licence and willingness to travel
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365, particularly Teams (Live and Webinar), Viva Engage and SharePoint
Desirable:
- Experience of working on construction/civil engineering infrastructure projects
- An understanding of the regulatory environment in construction/rail/utility industries
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field
- Member of CIPR and relevant qualification
