Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Procurement Engineer with a strong engineering background and a solid understanding of fabrication and machining processes. This role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, collaborate closely with engineering teams, and ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of both custom-engineered and standard mechanical components. You will play a vital role in aligning supplier capabilities with project specifications, manufacturing requirements, and quality standards.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Procure a combination of custom-engineered and standard goods
  • Create and oversee purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in supplier acknowledgment details against project budgets and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures during the procurement process.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure favourable terms and conditions
  • Working closely with engineering to identify suitable suppliers during the NPI and RFQ process, leveraging technical expertise to ensure compliance with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance internally and externally to ensure alignment with manufacturing requirements and quality expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to balance cost and quality while maximising market opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to minimise project delays.
  • Provide progress updates and supply chain feedback to internal stakeholders.
  • Expediting of open Purchase Orders, and updating delivery dates within LN.
  • Collaboration with departments such as Stores, Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams
  • Monitor and report supplier performance against contractual agreements, focusing on delivery, quality, lead times, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring they meet engineering standards.
  • Support supplier audits if and when required.
  • Support the Procurement Manager in achieving departmental goals.
  • Undertake any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required

Essential

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Significant experience in Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • Demonstrable experience gained in a Mechanical Engineering environment working within an advanced engineering environment, supporting delivery to deadlines on projects preferable within the marine engineering industry.
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Experience working with an ERP system, such as Infor LN.
  • Willingness to support and embrace change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-player with key communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Educated to degree level or a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience in European engineering procurement.

Desirable

  • Defence sector experience would be beneficial
  • MCIPS qualification is preferred but not essential

Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum Existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.*
