The position.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated Chartered Facade Engineer to assist in the management of large teams / projects within the Facade engineering group at Associate Director level, reporting to a Studio Director.
You will have experience of undertaking the design and project management of complex UK and International engineering projects. You will have been working on large scale projects and possess a strong awareness of the Construction industry in the UK and International markets.
You will also have strong experience as a project engineer responsible for management of the design phase including financial management and control of the design process with experience of managing a team being desirable. You should have the commercial acumen to assist in key project decisions. A seasoned Engineer you will have gained a minimum of 8 or more years in the industry and be acquainted with the industry scene
in terms of contacts with Developers, Contractors and Architects. The primary focus will be on candidates who can demonstrate a strong track record of successful project delivery, technical expertise, and leadership abilities.
The role and responsibilities.
As a senior member of staff the responsibilities shall include, but shall not be limited to the following:
- Managing large scale projects effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to manage a team and effectively plan resource.
- Exercising financial control over projects and assisting in assessing fees / additional fee opportunities.
- Acting as a key client interface at a technical project level.
- Attendance at Design Team meetings with Clients, other design collaborators and communicate design ideas through sketches, models and presentations.
- Ability to develop designs from early concept stage through to final construction issue information.
- Provide holistic design solutions to Clients and understand value engineering, providing necessary support within the remits of AKT II’s Services.
- Interface with wider businesses within the Group to ensure submissions maximise potential opportunities to offer full delivery of available Services
- With the support of the Management Director, evaluate project challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities.
- Participate in forums to assist in the development of new ideas / innovation to promote and improve the company design reputation.
- Promoting and developing multi-disciplinary working to maximise opportunity.
- Overall Project Management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
- Reporting on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reports of key project deliverables.
- Complete performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays and any staff wellbeing issues as appropriate with the support of HR.
- Assist in the drafting of invoicing forecasts for projects with the support of Management Directors.
- Ensure strong team communication to facilitate exchanges of information and knowledge across the wider practice.
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team.
- Complying with all aspects of AKT’s Quality Management Systems/Procedures.
- Preparation and management of Project Execution Plans.
- Preparation and management of the Project Inception Document.
- Representing the business, including related disciplines, at external meetings.
- Participation in technical reviews of projects where required.
Qualifications and experience.
- Relevant degree (Facade Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Structural Engineering, etc.) and preferably a relevant postgraduate degree
- Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body i.e. CEng MCIBSE / MICE / MSFE.
- Applicants must have relevant experience of the management and delivery of design for major building projects.
- Experienced in the delivery of complete lifecycle projects through to completion.
- A good grounding as a general practitioner is also essential, with a thorough understanding of the interaction required between other disciplines associated with building design.
- The ability to integrate well into wider project teams is essential working closely with architects and other construction professionals to develop designs from early concept stage through to final construction issue information.
- A familiarity with relevant UK, US and International design codes is essential. A solid understanding of Eurocodes will be advantageous.
- As an individual of high calibre, candidates shall have had exposure to clients, designers, contractors and builders.
- Through the effectiveness of their technical design and management, the candidate should be able to demonstrate how these relationships have led to the delivery of excellence and the development of client relationships.

- Applicants need to possess an excellent technical background in facade design. They need to be good communicators and team workers and be able to demonstrate experience in managing and leading projects across a range of industry sectors. They need to be enthusiastic, pro-active and able to work on their own initiative. They need to be open to change and continual improvement. A high level of IT literacy is essential together with a desire to nurture and develop the team members to maximize their full potential.

- Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Previous exposure with developers, major contractors, clients of both national and local authorities as well as leading Architects is highly desirable.
