The Communications department sits at the core of the FCA’s voice – shaping what we say, how we say it, and why it matters. We set the strategic direction for all external communications, ensuring every message is clear, concise, and compelling.

This role is part of the Strategic Communications & News team. We work closely with strategic partners and teams across the business to create high-impact content – from website copy and corporate publications to op-eds, blogs, and speeches – that drives our messages home.

What will you be doing?

  • Collaborate with members of the FCA’s Executive Committee to craft clear, impactful speeches that support and advance the FCA’s strategic objectives.
  • Build strong relationships across the wider FCA and within the Communications department to gather insights, shape content, and ensure a smooth, efficient speechwriting process that delivers maximum impact.
  • Proactively generate ideas and develop a deep understanding of relevant subject areas to create compelling narratives and persuasive arguments.
  • Take ownership of individual projects, ensuring high-quality content that engages audiences and aligns with the FCA’s goals.
  • Work closely with communications and media teams to coordinate messaging and oversee the publication and dissemination of speeches across appropriate channels.

As a key member of the Strategic Communications & News team, you’ll work alongside talented colleagues across the Communications Directorate, gaining insight into the FCA’s priorities and helping to bring them to life through powerful, purpose-driven content.

Which skills are required?

Minimum

  • Proven experience in crafting impactful speeches for senior leaders, with a strong portfolio demonstrating clarity, persuasion, and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Experienced in engaging with senior stakeholders – able to provide thoughtful guidance, respond to feedback constructively, and build trusted relationships.
  • Exceptional written skills, with proven ability to tailor tone, style, and content for different audiences and formats under tight deadlines.

Essential

  • Thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Rapidly absorb and interpret complex information across a wide range of topics, distilling key insights into engaging, audience-focused content.
  • Support speakers in verbal delivery, including through rehearsal sessions and event preparation, while gathering feedback to enhance future performance.
  • Produce clear, concise briefing materials that provide stakeholders with essential context, key messages, and strategic framing.
  • Define the purpose and scope of each speech, ensuring content aligns with organisational priorities and delivers measurable impact.
