About the role:

This role is responsible for delivering train planning activities relating to the Class 810 fleet cascade within EMR. The Fleet Cascade Train & Resource Planner will produce revised train plans to support the fleet cascade, including the production of rolling stock and train crew diagrams, bidding of trains to Network Rail and the distribution of train plans across the wider business. The role will work closely with other members of the EMR Operational Planning and Transformation team, the New Trains team, the EMR Resources Team, EMR Training Teams and with EMR Control. The role will also provide support to the EMR Control team in relation to their cl.810 planning activities, as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To undertake train planning activities in relation to the introduction of class 810 units into service and the removal of class 222 units from service at EMR.
  • To assist, the EMR Control team with their activities relating to the cl.810 fleet cascade.
  • Manage any amends requested by the Cl.810 Cascade Team from T-3 weeks up to day before operation, including briefing Planners and/or Controllers on required interventions.
  • To amend EMR train services, bidding amendments to Network Rail and processing the subsequent Offer Response.
  • To produce rolling stock diagrams that balance across the day and week.
  • To produce train crew diagrams in accordance with agreed conditions of service and planning rules. This also includes the production of job cards where these are required.
  • To liaise with Network Rail and other train operators as necessary to resolve issues and optimise timetable plans.
  • To upload, circulate and publish the train plan in accordance with company processes and systems, ensuring the plan remains well communicated.
  • To work closely with the Operational Planning Projects Manager to ensure the cl.810 cascade plan aligns with LTP and STP train plans and wider business requests.
  • To provide subject matter expert advice and guidance on timetable and resource planning in relation to the cl.810 fleet cascade.
  • To attend business meetings and briefings relating to the cl.810 fleet cascade.
  • To deputise, when required, for the Operational Planning Projects Manager in relation to cl.810 cascade planning activities.
  • To assist, where required, with other Train Planning workstreams as directed by the Head of Operational Performance and Planning.

About you:

  • Analytical approach to problem solving, and ability to process and resolve complex issues using a range of approaches and techniques.
  • Computer literacy in common applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to comprehend and contribute to EMR’s wider business strategies
  • General knowledge of East Midlands railway geography, the train services and rolling stock operated by EMR
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure
