An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineer, Cost Estimating to join our Newcastle team.
With a combination of experience in both technical and process, the Engineer, Cost Estimating, will prepare technical proposals and costings to meet customer requirements. This is a wide-ranging role providing reliable and accurate output be used for commercial tenders for JDR’s Renewables and Energy enquiries.
The Engineer, Cost Estimating provides a sales-focused response to customers covering JDR’s full product offering. The post holder provides full support to the sales process in conjunction with the external sales and project teams and other JDR departments.
Main responsibilities:
You will possess excellent communication skills, together with the ability to work calmly under pressure, manage multiple and complex proposals and other work to meet tight deadlines; all whilst paying attention to detail. A formal engineering qualification would be an advantage, preferably a minimum HNC level.

Main responsibilities:
- Review all client documentation and specifications. Clarify any discrepancies or uncertainties to ensure a sound basis for the quote. Challenge the client’s specifications and requirements where appropriate and seek guidance and recommendations to arrive at the most cost-effective solution
- Manage your own workload to ensure bid deadlines are met
- Ensure a high level of accuracy is present in all design and costing output
- Co-ordination and accurate preparation of all technical and supporting documentation involved with the sale of JDR products and services prior to obtaining management approval in a timely manner
- Create and compile quotation costs in line with the technical offer and scope of work to a high level of accuracy in order to support the specific bid and to ensure maximum project profitability
- Liaise with other JDR departments and teams to obtain their assistance when required to complete a technical bid
- Ensure all bid content complies with JDR’s internal procedures, rules, and design manuals, or obtain approval to proceed against these from the necessary authority
- Provide technical support for the sales, purchasing and service departments
- Identify and record potential risks and seek guidance from relevant departments to manage or mitigate
- Assist the order acceptance and handover process, through the review of customer purchase orders and engaging the relevant departments prior to handover to the project team
