Trust Clinical Fellow ST3+ in Glaucoma
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
Date: 2 weeks ago
City: Leicester, England
Contract type: Full time

This post offers advanced specialist training as a Trust Clinical Fellow for 1 year in Glaucoma to be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
The Leicester Royal Infirmary provides the ophthalmology service for Leicestershire, a district with a population of over one million.
The post is suitable for an ophthalmologist nearing the end of their training or already in possession of CCT. It offers post accreditation experience beyond traditional UK registrar rotations for ophthalmologists wishing to specialize in glaucoma.
The glaucoma workload is complex and often managed across multiple subspecialties. Clinical sessions are directly supervised by one of five glaucoma consultants, all of whom offer a wide range of both traditional filtering surgery and newer minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, namely Preserflo Microshunt, canaloplasty, trabeculotomy and most recently suprachoroidal shunt procedures. In addition to gaining significant experience in these newer modalities of glaucoma therapy, fellows can also expect to become fully trained independent trabeculectomy surgeons by the end of the fellowship. Over 150 trabeculectomies are performed in the department in a year as well as significant numbers of the PAUL aqueous tube shunt. Fellows are also expected to undertake both supervised and independent cataract surgery lists, during which there is significant exposure to angle closure eyes.
The successful candidate will work with the 4 Glaucoma Consultants:
Mr U Sarodia, Ms L Osman, Mr H Malick and Mr I Ali.
The candidate will be expected to make a substantial contribution to research and training in the department.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We Have Four Primary Goals
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
