We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse to work under the General and Speciality Team based at Wexham Park Hospital, within our Main Theatres Department.

Main duties of the job
The department is looking for an enthusiastic leader to operationally support the specialist teams inclusive of CEPOD, Obstetrics, Gynae, Upper G.I, Colorectal, Urology and Breast surgery. The team will be covering a 24/7 roster including nights, weekends and on calls.
You will be expected to use your excellent clinical skills supported through evidenced based knowledge and to actively contribute to service development, identifying opportunities across the perioperative pathway.
Mentoring and development of staff and their well being will be a high priority along with supporting senior management, roster management, sickness reviews, staff appraisals, mandatory and statutory training (MAST) management as well as supporting the departmental/ trust strategy. Your investment will ensure the delivery of high quality/ safe care for all our patients for the next 12 months.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct (2015/ HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics (2016)/HCPC Standards of Proficiency for ODP’s (2014). Trust policies and professional guidelines
- To be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision for perioperative patients
- To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the theatre team based on current evidence based practice/s
- In conjunction with the Band 7 team leaders, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all staff within the theatre department.
- To deputise for the Band 7 team leaders in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce
- To lead the day to day operational requirements of the theatre team ensuring efficient use of theatre utilisation whilst maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
- To mentor new starters and/or students not only with their intra-operative learning/exposure but to provide them a holistic view of Theatre Nursing.
- To show leadership by taking initiative, being proactive, and helping the team. Listen actively, be respectful, and offer solutions when problems arise. be someone others can rely on and a good role mode, and who is always eager to learn and grow.
Qualification
Essential criteria
- NMC/HCPC
- Diploma (HE) Operating Department Practice (or NVQ equivalent)
- Leadership Course
- Nursing/ Perioperative degree or working towards a degree
- Formal mentorship / assessment qualification e.g. completion of the Trust associate mentorship programme.
- Academically accredited post registration qualification in Theatre/Perioperative Practice or relevant experience.
Essential criteria
- Own continuing professional development
- Relevant clinical experience in theatres.
- Ability to practice within more than one role of peri-operative practice
- Awareness of current professional peri-operative practice issues
