Exciting Opportunity: Band 5 Registered Nurse – Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Band 5 Adult Registered Nurse to join our Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit. If you have experience in acute medical care or emergency services and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this could be the perfect role for you.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills, including triaging, history taking, physical assessment, and performing same-day emergency procedures for a diverse range of medical patients.

As part of our multidisciplinary team—including nurses, doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, medical technical assistants, and emergency healthcare assistants—you will play a vital role in providing timely assessments and management for acute medical patients. Our unit receives direct referrals from GPs and the Emergency Department, ensuring efficient patient pathways and helping to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Main duties of the job

  • Triage acute medical referrals
  • To be responsible for assessment planning and intervention in the management of acute medical patients
  • To provide same -day emergency care, prompt safety and efficient management and discharge
  • To work within a team that provides high quality care

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Current (or pending) NMC Registration

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching certificate, Slip, Mentorship preparation for healthcare

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience in caring for a variety of acute medical conditions
  • Previous experience triaging emergency and acute medical patients

Desirable criteria

  • Experience /placements in emergency care or acute medical departments

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues
  • Ability to manage change within the working environment
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Able to train and supervise junior staff
  • Able to manage a team in the absence of the team leader
