Westborough High School is a caring, vibrant and happy learning community. We value all our staff and work together to make a difference to children’s lives.

Do you have a passion for books and reading and the enthusiasm to inspire young people to become lifelong readers?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and creative Learning Resource Centre Manager (Library) to manage and develop our Learning Resource Centre and help foster a strong culture of reading across our school.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can create a welcoming, inclusive and engaging library environment where pupils are encouraged to read for pleasure, develop their confidence and become increasingly independent learners.

The successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring that our Learning Resource Centre is at the heart of school life. Alongside managing the day-to-day library service, the postholder will help develop opportunities that encourage pupils to discover new authors and genres, broaden their reading experiences and develop positive reading habits.

A key part of the role will be ensuring that library provision is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils, reluctant readers and pupils with SEND. The postholder will also monitor pupil engagement with the library and contribute to the ongoing development of reading provision across the school.

Working closely with our literacy team and curriculum colleagues, you will ensure that the library provides a high-quality range of books and resources that reflects the interests, needs and reading abilities of our pupils. You will take an active role in promoting reading across the school through displays, events, reading initiatives, enrichment activities and opportunities such as author visits and partnerships with external organisations.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • have a genuine enthusiasm for books, reading and literacy;
  • be passionate about encouraging young people to read for pleasure;
  • create a welcoming, inclusive and purposeful library environment;
  • manage and develop an engaging and accessible range of books and resources;
  • support pupils in developing independent learning, research and information skills;
  • work effectively with teaching staff and the literacy team to support curriculum and reading priorities;
  • develop creative activities, events and initiatives that increase pupil engagement with reading;
  • be confident working with secondary-age pupils and establishing positive expectations for behaviour;
  • use library systems effectively to manage, monitor and develop library provision; and
  • be organised, proactive and able to manage the day-to-day operation of a busy school library.

Following the Section 8 Ofsted inspection in June 2026, Westborough achieved the green expected judgement in every category. Inspectors were highly complimentary about the quality of education provided at Westborough, recognising that ‘pupils are supported well to achieve.’ The inspectors praised the professional learning provided to staff and commented ‘ staff value this support and recognise how this shapes their practice,’ ‘staff are proud to work at the school.’ ‘ They feel supported by leaders who take workload and wellbeing into consideration’.

As a valued member of our team we can offer:

  • Clear and shared values and expectations
  • A commitment to tailored professional development
  • A stimulating work environment
  • An experienced, highly committed and support leadership team

If you are passionate about creating a library that young people genuinely want to use and would enjoy playing a key role in developing a culture of reading across our school, we would be delighted to hear from you.

You are warmly welcomed to visit our school to meet other staff and to see for yourself what a great place Westborough is to work.
