Mortgage Recoveries Manager

Castle Trust Bank

Complex mortgage recoveries. Real ownership. Meaningful outcomes.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mortgage Recoveries Manager to join our Property team at Castle Trust Bank.

At Castle Trust Bank, we pride ourselves on being a fintech challenger bank, providing savings accounts, specialist property mortgages and retail finance lending to a wide range of customers.

This is a key role managing a portfolio of complex mortgage and bridging cases that have entered arrears, financial distress or default. You will assess each customer’s circumstances, develop appropriate recovery strategies and work closely with borrowers, professional advisers and internal stakeholders to achieve fair, responsible and commercially effective outcomes.

You will have considerable ownership of your portfolio, covering everything from restructuring, refinancing and negotiated settlements through to litigation, receivership, insolvency and asset realisation. You will also prepare recommendations for senior management and relevant credit and risk committees.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced recoveries professional who combines strong commercial judgement with a genuine commitment to supporting customers experiencing financial difficulty.

The role can be based from our Basingstoke or London office, working as part of our hybrid model.

What you’ll be doing

You will manage a portfolio of mortgage and bridging cases through the early and advanced stages of arrears, distress and default. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of complex mortgage arrears and recoveries cases, taking ownership from early financial difficulty through to resolution.
  • Assessing borrower finances, property security and repayment capacity to determine the most appropriate recovery strategy.
  • Developing and delivering tailored solutions, including repayment arrangements, restructuring, refinancing, settlements and property sales.
  • Managing enforcement activity where required, including litigation, insolvency, receivership and asset realisation.
  • Working closely with customers and professional advisers, including solicitors, valuers and receivers, to achieve fair and commercially appropriate outcomes.
  • Preparing clear recommendations and reporting on high-risk and non-performing cases, including impairment, write-offs and expected recoveries.
  • Ensuring customers experiencing financial difficulty are supported appropriately, with all activity meeting regulatory requirements, Consumer Duty and the Bank’s arrears and forbearance standards.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with strong experience managing complex mortgage arrears, defaults or recoveries, together with the judgement and confidence to take ownership of challenging cases. As a minimum, you will bring:

  • Proven capability and experience within UK mortgage or bridging arrears, default, workout or debt recoveries.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage recovery strategies, including restructuring, refinancing, negotiated settlements, litigation and asset realisation.
  • The ability to analyse borrower financial information, property security and repayment capacity.
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance fair customer outcomes with the need to manage and reduce credit losses.
  • Experience preparing case recommendations, portfolio reviews or impairment assessments.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The confidence to make decisions, constructively challenge and escalate risk where appropriate.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate case records.
  • An understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including Consumer Duty, Treating Customers Fairly, Data Protection and Anti-Money Laundering requirements.
  • A collaborative, customer-focused and proactive approach.

Experience working with litigation solicitors, insolvency professionals or LPA receivers would be particularly valuable.

What’s in it for you

Alongside a competitive salary, dependent on experience, we offer:

  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Generous contributory pension scheme through Hargreaves Lansdown
  • Life assurance
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to five days
