What you’ll be doing:

Enjoy practical work, solving day-to-day problems and providing excellent customer service? We are recruiting two Facilities Officers to help keep the Council’s community and corporate buildings safe, secure, welcoming and ready for use. This hands-on role will suit applicants with building management experience who enjoy varied responsibilities and working directly with building users.

As a first point of contact for customers, visitors and colleagues, including during emergencies, you will provide a responsive, customer-focused service.

Your key activities will include:

  • Acting as a key holder, opening and securing buildings, and carrying out routine patrols of buildings and external areas.
  • Completing scheduled health, safety, security and fire checks, identifying hazards and taking appropriate action to keep building users safe.
  • Monitoring cleaning, repairs and maintenance, carrying out cleaning when required, and undertaking minor maintenance.
  • Setting up rooms and supporting office and accommodation moves, including lifting and transporting furniture and equipment safely.
  • Providing basic first aid cover and assisting with emergency responses.
  • Covering reception and post room duties, and supporting civic duties where required, including mace bearing and mayoral activities, as required.

Training and practical experience will help you develop your skills and support repairs, maintenance and compliance work across the Council’s property portfolio.

You will work 37 hours per week on a shift rota across Council buildings in Slough, with deployment determined by service needs rather than a fixed location. This is an on-site role with no hybrid working.

Shifts vary between 7am and 1am, Monday to Sunday, and include regular evening, weekend and bank holiday working. You will also be required to participate in an emergency call-out rota providing cover throughout the year, including out-of-hours support. A full, clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for business use are essential for travel between sites. A 10% shift allowance will be paid in addition to the basic salary in recognition of these working arrangements.
