Data & AI Automation Trainee

Faversham House

Who we are

Faversham House is an independent, award-winning B2B media and events company of 75+ people, based in a newly refurbished, collaboration-focused office in East Grinstead. We run two market-leading brands - Utility Week (utilities) edie (sustainability), reaching thousands of B2B professionals through digital publishing, events, conferences and awards.

Our values aren't just words on a wall, we live them, every day:

  • Ambitious: Be brave and achieve great things
  • Creative: Think differently and try something new
  • Caring: Love what you do and do what’s right

The role

  • A brand-new role in our Business Intelligence & Technology team, helping us make the most of AI across Faversham House.
  • Close mentoring from our technology lead, with full training and an apprenticeship for further development – we’re looking for aptitude and curiosity, not years of commercial experience.
  • A clear starting point in data research and enrichment, then wider development projects that align with our business goals.
  • Real variety: one day you’re improving how we enrich our data, the next you’re supporting our websites or testing a new workflow.

What you'll do

  • Work with Business Intelligence and Marketing to design and run AI-enhanced data research processes that are accurate, efficient and compliant, then develop them towards an automated, agentic approach needing minimal human input.
  • Learn the principles of development with our technology lead – coding, testing, deployment and going live – so you can support website development and act as their backup.
  • Deliver development projects using AI assistants, agents and workflows, demonstrating ROI and reporting value for money.
  • Build privacy by design into everything, keeping pace with data protection rules and the sustainability impact of our tools, in line with our B Corp commitments.

What we're looking for

You'll need:

  • Regular, hands-on use of AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT, with a feel for their strengths and limits.
  • Basic programming (ideally Python or JavaScript) and the ability to read code you didn’t write.
  • Evidence of building something on your own initiative – a project, script, bot or website.
  • Sound judgement with data – you know why API keys, personal data and credentials need careful handling, and you ask before doing anything irreversible.
  • A structured approach to problem solving and clear communication, including explaining technical ideas to non-technical colleagues.

It would help if you also have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject such as Software Engineering, Data Engineering etc
  • Experience of using AI beyond everyday use, e.g. a custom GPT, Claude Project or automated task.
  • Some exposure to APIs, automation tools (Zapier, Power Automate) or SQL, and an interest in our sectors.
