Help build a culture where keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility

At The Old Station Nursery, we believe everyone is still growing - little humans and big humans alike. As a Regional Safeguarding & Safety Officer, you’ll bring specialist knowledge and thoughtful guidance to the teams who care for our children every day.

Reporting to our Head of Safeguarding and Safety, you’ll lead safeguarding across your region, helping teams respond to concerns, strengthen their practice, and turn learning into lasting improvements.

Why Join Our Team?

We take care of the people who care for our children and families. Here’s what that means for you:

  • Childcare support: Free childcare for your first month, followed by a 52% discount based on your working hours.

  • Time to recharge: 31 days of holiday, including national bank holidays, plus your birthday off and an extra day after 3 years of service.

  • Everyday support: With access to Perkbox, enjoy discounts on shopping, meals out, and everyday essentials, alongside wellbeing tools and online medical services. You’ll also be eligible for a Blue Light Card, helping your money go further with even more discounts.

  • Recognition along the way: We celebrate the care and commitment you bring, with Employee of the Month recognition, long-service awards to mark your milestones, and referral bonuses for introducing friends or family to our team.

Pay: £40,000 per annum + £4,000 car allowance
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Where You'll Be Working

This regional role involves travel across our nursery settings, each with its own team, families, and local community.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Safeguarding and Safety and fellow Safeguarding Officers to maintain consistent practice across both regions. You’ll also partner with Operations, HR, Recruitment, Health & Safety, and Facilities, bringing safeguarding expertise to decisions across the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll combine practical advice and case management with training, nursery visits, and quality assurance. Your work will help colleagues recognise concerns, respond confidently, and understand why their actions matter.

Your role will include:

  • Providing safeguarding advice to nursery managers and colleagues, including support during inspections and regulatory visits

  • Supporting investigations into concerns, allegations, and incidents, maintaining accurate records and ensuring actions are completed

  • Escalating complex or high-risk cases to the Head of Safeguarding and Safety and liaising with external agencies

  • Supporting HR with safeguarding investigations and allegations against staff, and advising on complaints, parent concerns, and whistleblowing

  • Promoting safer recruitment through advice and compliance audits

  • Working with Health & Safety and Facilities on incidents, environmental risk assessments, safety audits, and safe nursery environments

  • Delivering safeguarding induction and training, coaching colleagues, and developing practical resources

  • Undertaking safeguarding audits and quality assurance visits, supporting improvement plans, and monitoring compliance

  • Analysing safeguarding data, identifying risks and trends, and producing clear reports and evidence-based recommendations

  • Contributing to lessons learned reviews, acquisitions, new nursery openings, and regulatory readiness

  • Sharing learning and providing safeguarding cover across the organisation when needed

Our values are simple: Own it. Be human. Make it happen. That means following concerns through, approaching sensitive situations with empathy, and helping teams take timely action to protect children.

What We’re Looking For

You must hold a relevant professional qualification in education, childcare, social work, health, safeguarding, or a related field, and have completed Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training.

You’ll bring significant experience of safeguarding children in education, childcare, social care, health, or a related environment, alongside:

  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice

  • Experience of managing or supporting safeguarding concerns and investigations

  • Experience of delivering training, guidance, or professional support

  • Experience of auditing, monitoring, or quality assurance

  • The ability to analyse information, identify risk, and make evidence-based recommendations

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge practice

  • Clear report writing, accurate record-keeping, and the ability to prioritise competing demands

  • Discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commitment to continuing professional development

A safeguarding qualification at Level 3 or above, Early Years experience, experience supporting regulatory inspections, or experience analysing safeguarding data and producing reports would also be valuable.

We’re looking for someone who combines professional curiosity with sound judgement, listens carefully, and helps others build the confidence to act.
