Macmillan Davies

VP People & Culture

High Peak, Derbyshire

Permanent | Part-time, 0.6–0.8 FTE, ideally spread over four days

Actual salary up to £75,000 | Full-time equivalent up to £120,000 | Plus bonus and executive benefits package

Macmillan Davies is exclusively partnering with an established, specialist organisation to appoint a VP People & Culture.

Reporting to the CEO and joining the Executive team, you will lead the People agenda and help shape the organisation’s next stage of development. With a highly skilled workforce and an appetite to strengthen leadership, culture and organisational performance, the business offers considerable scope for an experienced HR Director to make a lasting contribution.

This is a permanent, part-time appointment, ideally with hours spread over four days to provide regular connection with the business.

The role

You will bring a clear commercial perspective to the People agenda, working closely with the CEO and fellow executives to translate business priorities into practical action.

A key focus will be strengthening the foundations that help people and organisations perform: capable managers, clear expectations, meaningful development and effective succession planning. You will assess what is already working, identify where change is needed and build an approach that suits the organisation’s size, ambitions and culture.

Your remit will include:

  • Developing and delivering a People strategy aligned with the business’s commercial objectives.
  • Advising the CEO and Executive team, providing sound judgement and constructive challenge.
  • Strengthening leadership and management capability.
  • Developing performance, career development, talent and succession frameworks.
  • Building employee engagement and stronger connections across the organisation.
  • Improving organisational effectiveness and supporting business change.
  • Providing leadership on complex employee matters, balancing commercial priorities with a fair and considered approach.
  • Ensuring the People function delivers practical, measurable value.

Visibility and relationships will be central to your success. You will take time to understand the business, listen to its people and build the trust needed to turn ideas into sustained improvements.

Your experience

This opportunity requires a seasoned HR Director or People Director with a solid record of delivery at that level. You will already have held senior accountability for the People agenda and worked directly with CEOs and Executive teams. It is suited to an established HR leader rather than someone seeking their first HR Director appointment.

You will bring:

  • A proven track record of shaping and delivering People strategies that support business performance.
  • Experience guiding organisations through change, transformation or restructuring.
  • Evidence of strengthening leadership capability, culture and organisational effectiveness.
  • The commercial judgement to prioritise effectively and focus effort where it will have the greatest impact.
  • Confidence advising and challenging senior stakeholders, including on sensitive or complex matters.
  • A practical approach, with the willingness to stay close to day-to-day delivery as well as set strategic direction.

Your style will be calm, approachable and credible. You will know when to challenge, when to listen and how to bring people with you.

Why consider this opportunity?

This role offers the opportunity to contribute at Executive level while working part-time. You will have a close working relationship with the CEO, a meaningful voice in business decisions and the scope to shape a People function that supports the organisation’s future ambitions.

For an experienced HR Director who enjoys combining strategic influence with visible, hands-on leadership, it offers breadth, autonomy and the opportunity to see the impact of your work.
