Earth Scientist - Temporary until December 2027
Mining Remediation Authority
12-month Fixed-Term Contract | Mansfield / Hybrid Working | Travel Across Yorkshire & the Midlands
Do you enjoy solving complex environmental problems and turning technical evidence into practical action?
We're looking for an Earth Scientist to join our Salinity team and play a key role in tackling the risks associated with rising saline mine water. This is an opportunity to work on projects with real environmental impact, influencing how we understand, assess and manage an emerging challenge across Britain's former coalfields.
You'll work with regulators, consultants, technical specialists and partners to develop solutions, interpret data, scope investigations and help shape future interventions. No two projects are the same, and you'll often be involved from the very beginning, helping to define the problem, identify the evidence needed and drive progress forward.
We're looking for someone who...
- Enjoys getting to the heart of complex environmental and technical challenges.
- Can confidently engage, influence and build credibility with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Brings practical experience in hydrogeology, geochemistry or a related earth science discipline.
- Is comfortable working through ambiguity and using their initiative to move projects forward.
- Can translate technical findings into clear, practical recommendations.
- Thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working across disciplines.
Why join us?
- Work on a nationally significant environmental programme.
- Influence projects from concept through to delivery.
- Enjoy flexible hybrid working with substantial home working.
- Collaborate with experts across science, engineering and environmental disciplines.
- Make a lasting difference for people and the environment in mining areas.
