Streetworks Inspector

Hampshire County Council

The Role

To provide technical and administrative support to the team responsible for the coordination and regulation of highway activities. This includes undertaking inspections, analysing performance, works and event data, and communicating with customers and stakeholders to ensure statutory obligations are met in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and budgets.

What you’ll do

As part of the Streetworks team, you'll help deliver the County Council's duties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, regulating utility works across the western area of the county. You'll inspect utility, third-party and County Council works on the highway, identify and help resolve defects, and work closely with contractors to ensure compliance and high standards of workmanship.

You'll also respond to enquiries from members of the public and other stakeholders, while supporting the local Streetworks coordination and performance management team to ensure highway activities are effectively managed and statutory requirements are met.

What we’re looking for

You'll be flexible, organised and able to manage your workload with minimal supervision. Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you'll work with a range of contractors, colleagues, stakeholders and members of the public.

Previous experience in highways or a related field is desirable, although we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and relevant experience.

You'll be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

This position may also be offered as an apprenticeship, with the opportunity to undertake either a Level 3 Civil Engineering or Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
