As the next step of long term growth and to support our sustainability priorities - Bellway has opened a new, highly automated, Timber Frame Manufacturing facility located in Sutton in Ashfield.

This new Division, Bellway Home Space, became operational in 2026 and there is an exciting opportunity to join the team at our new state of the art facility. Our Home Space Division is looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join the Division's Finance team.

The Role

The role of the Assistant Accountant involves assisting in the production of accurate and timely financial transactions and reports in addition to maintaining the business's accounting records and production of the monthly management accounts. To assist Head of Finance with maintenance and development of cost management reporting, cost control initiatives and KPI review.

Principal Accountabilities Of The Role Include

  • Effectively assist the Head of Finance in preparing monthly journals, management accounts and account analysis, including for audit purposes and at interim and financial year end.
  • Ensure the weekly bank reconciliations, weekly cash forecast and movement reports are prepared accurately and submitted appropriately.
  • Manage the maintenance of all banking and cashbook entries.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly statistical returns for Group including National Statistics.
  • Transactional finance, including sales and purchase ledger processing and reconciliation.
  • Reviewing Standard Costing activities, Recoveries and Inventory movements including variance analysis.
  • Credit control (minimal as all inter company transactions).
  • Assist with the CIS & VAT returns.
  • Assist in the monthly preparation of Trial Balance and management accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliation and backup documentation.
  • Assist with cost control and KPI reporting.
  • Assist with management of fixed assets and capital expenditure tracking.
  • Work with non-financial managers to drive control and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all activities and carried out in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Divisional and Group Finance Management Teams.

Experience, Qualifications And Skills

Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong educational background, possibly studying towards an Accountancy Qualification
  • Previous accounting experience - essential
  • Experience in manufacturing environment with standard costing
  • Good IT skills and an ability to interrogate and develop ERP/MRP system
  • High skill level in Microsoft Excel
  • Be methodical and with a diligent approach to working
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills, especially in liaison with non-financial managers
  • Be organised to be able to cope with multiple tasks and priorities in a fast moving manufacturing environment and with a high commitment to quality standards.
  • Microsoft Dynamics Business Central experience a strong advantage

The Role and Working Conditions

  • Office based role with some infrequent travel within the Group and to Head Office (Newcastle).
  • Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked
