Technician Demonstrator Art and FX

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of Greater Manchester for a 0.6FTE Technician Demonstrator in Art and FX

Working closely with academic tutors, the role holder will be responsible for providing support for student learning, teaching and research across the portfolio of academic disciplines including support for students’ projects and self-directed study in the workshops and studios.

We are looking for applicants who are enthusiastic, motivated, organised and who have a good working knowledge of safe working practices, especially COSHH and fire safety. Ideally the successful candidate would be someone who has had recent responsibility for the safety of spaces and the people within them.

The role holder will be expected to work both independently, and as an effective member of a team of demonstrators / technicians in providing a technical support service which meets the needs of academic staff and students, and enables optimum use of University resources. The role includes support and demonstration of a range of equipment, associated processes and first line maintenance. We would be interested in hearing from candidates with skills in two or more of the below:

  • Art studio and workshop management
  • 2D studio practice using traditional or digital media
  • Digital sculpting and editing packages and 3D print processes

You should possess good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to issue equipment, tools and materials, undertake materials purchase and stock controls and maintain accurate records.

Although a first degree in a related subject is desirable, the University is particularly interested in candidates with a strong professional / industry background in the field of 2D Art and a willingness to achieve Associate Fellowship of the HEA accreditation within dedicated timescales.
