Stores Controller (24-Month FTC)

We’re looking for an experienced Stores Controller to help maintain safe and effective warehouse operations while supporting Northern Powergrid’s transition to Oracle Cloud.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining day-to-day warehouse management with an opportunity to contribute to a significant business transformation. You’ll help ensure operational continuity throughout the project while supporting system testing, data validation, process improvement and the successful adoption of new ways of working.
Based at our Billingham warehouse, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the site, including stock control, goods handling and deliveries to Northern Powergrid teams and our delivery partners.
Along with a competitive salary of between £41,584 - £52,383 (Inclusive of guaranteed overtime) we also offer;

Key Responsibilities
- Leading, supporting and developing warehouse and logistics colleagues.
- Ensuring all warehouse, vehicle and materials-handling activities are carried out safely.
- Maintaining accurate stock records and investigating stock discrepancies.
- Coordinating goods-in, storage, picking, loading and delivery activities.
- Supporting cyclical, annual and year-end stock checks.
- Liaising with operational teams, suppliers and contractors regarding materials and deliveries.
- Overseeing the direct-to-site delivery process.
- Maintaining high standards of site security, housekeeping and operational compliance.
- Managing relevant shift, standby or resource arrangements.
- Supporting employee induction, training and competence development.
- Completing safety inspections and audits covering people, vehicles and warehouse activities.
- Supporting Oracle Cloud testing, data validation and readiness activities.
- Helping colleagues adopt new systems, processes and ways of working.
- Identifying opportunities to improve warehouse controls, stock accuracy and operational efficiency.
Key Competencies
- Experience working in a warehouse, stores or distribution environment, preferably in a supervisory or team-leadership role.
- Experience of leading, supporting and developing operational colleagues.
- A strong understanding of warehouse health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Experience using stock-control, inventory-management or enterprise resource planning systems.
- Strong IT skills and confidence working with operational data.
- Experience of stocktaking, inventory reconciliation and discrepancy investigation.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Clear communication and the ability to work effectively with operational teams, suppliers and contractors.
- A customer-focused approach and the ability to remain effective in a busy operational environment.
- Flexibility to support operational requirements, which may occasionally include working outside normal hours.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A full UK driving licence.
- A counterbalance forklift-truck licence.
- A reach-truck or narrow-aisle forklift-truck licence.
- Level 3 or above/equivalent leadership qualification.
Desirable
- IOSH or another recognised health and safety qualification.
- An overhead gantry crane qualification.
- Relevant training in customer service, inventory management or warehouse operations.
