Wood is seeking Senior Technical Author’s to join our Integrated Digital Operations Team based in Aberdeen, supporting a diverse portfolio of global projects. This is a hybrid role on a contract basis.

The Role

This role is responsible for updating and enhancing existing documentation to meet client requirements, ensuring all deliverables are completed within agreed timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints. Experience in Management System documentation, including Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSSE) documentation, is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and define the work: Establish objectives, audience, scope, standards, legislation, style, methodology, resources, timescales, and agree these with the client or technical authority
  • Lead and coordinate documentation projects: Plan, coordinate, and monitor documentation activities across multiple projects, ensuring deliverables are produced in accordance with agreed scope, schedule, quality, and budget requirements
  • Research and structure content: Gather and filter relevant information, organise it logically, define heading hierarchies, and develop synopses where required to ensure clarity and usability
  • Engage with stakeholders and subject matter experts: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subject matter experts, and project stakeholders to gather, validate, and communicate technical information. Facilitate document reviews, resolve comments, and coordinate approval and publication activities.
  • Author and develop technical content: Produce consistent, compliant draft documents using templates, incorporating accurate diagrams and graphics, and liaising through review and approval stages
  • Manage document production and quality: Ensure independent quality control checks and coordinate final production deliverables (electronic and hard copy) with production teams
  • Maintain and assure document quality: Revise existing documents as required, ensure consistency of style and language, manage workload priorities, and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver to agreed standards, scope, and budget

Expected

  • Proven experience in technical authoring, technical communication, or document development
  • Strong document planning, structuring, and information management skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information clearly
  • Experience working with subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word
  • Previous experience in a technical authoring or related role, ideally within the Oil and Gas sector
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience
