Consultant Clinical Scientist: Radiotherapy Physics

University Hospitals Tees is a hospital group formed by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Radiotherapy Physics is situated at the James Cook University Hospital in South Tees.

Radiotherapy Physics is comprised of Treatment Planning, Machines and Computer Science. We are looking to recruit an outstanding individual to lead the Treatment Planning section. The successful candidate will be an experienced scientist working at consultant level with familiarity across all areas of radiotherapy physics and expertise in treatment planning, with competence to act as a Medical Physic Expert. The individual will be someone who can create a vision for the future of the treatment planning section and take the action needed to achieve those goals.

This is an exciting time for the radiotherapy service with a major capital equipment replacement program in progress. Alongside this the department has a strong track record of innovation and service development in areas such as SABR, advanced IGRT and innovative machine QA techniques. Current priorities include introducing online adaptive radiotherapy and increased usage of AI tools.

The postholder will provide scientific, clinical and professional leadership and has an essential role in ensuring safe, high-quality service delivery.

Key Elements Are

  • developing and enacting a strategy for the treatment planning service at JCUH
  • managing resources & staff
  • overseeing academic, strategic & project work
  • working with senior Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology colleagues to develop and deliver continual service improvement in treatment planning
  • provision of expert advice to medical and clinical staff
  • responsibility for compliance with statutory obligations
