We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Health and Social Care to join the Health and Social Care department at Sandwell College/Midland Metropolitan Learning Campus offering opportunities for full-time and part-time roles.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or industry professional who is passionate about supporting learners within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-quality teaching across Health and Social Care programmes, helping students to develop the skills, knowledge and professional behaviours required for progression into higher education and careers within the sector.

Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued development of the department, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience that supports achievement, progression and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Health and Social Care programmes.
  • Undertake course leadership and personal tutor responsibilities, supporting learners both academically and pastorally.
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records using College systems.
  • Support learners to achieve successful outcomes and progress within education or employment.
  • Work collaboratively with course teams to ensure consistently high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Embed key skills and functional skills within programme delivery where appropriate.
  • Liaise effectively with colleagues, employers, external agencies and stakeholders to support learner development.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Health and Social Care or a related subject
  • A teaching qualification such as a Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification
  • Experience delivering high-quality teaching and learning within a further education or vocational setting
  • Experience preparing, developing and evaluating engaging learning materials
  • Knowledge and experience of Pearson BTEC and/or NCFE Health and Social Care qualifications
  • A Science or Nursing background would be advantageous
  • Experience embedding functional skills and key skills into teaching delivery
  • Experience of internal verification and moderation processes

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted As Stand Alone Qualifications

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
