About the role
At Balfour Beatty, we deliver some of the UK's most complex and critical infrastructure projects. We are looking for an experienced Planner to join our team in Westhill, Aberdeen, helping to drive the successful delivery of major construction and energy projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, influencing project outcomes, and supporting delivery teams from tender stage through to project completion.
What you'll be doing
As a Planner, you will play a key role in developing, managing and maintaining project programmes, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining detailed project programmes using industry-standard planning software.
- Producing tender and contract programmes, planning reports, presentations and supporting documentation.
- Working closely with project teams to develop logical construction methodologies and delivery strategies.
- Monitoring project progress and analysing programme performance.
- Identifying critical path activities and advising the team on risks, opportunities and corrective actions.
- Maintaining project baselines and managing change control processes.
- Supporting effective resource planning, ensuring labour, plant and materials are utilised efficiently.
- Producing project metrics and KPI reporting to inform decision-making and drive project performance.
- Collaborating with internal teams, clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting and mentoring Assistant and Trainee Planners where required.
Who we're looking for
- Previous experience working as a Planner within construction, infrastructure, engineering or other transferable sectors.
- Proven ability to develop and manage project programmes from inception through to completion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Good understanding of project controls, planning processes and reporting requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience in one of the following:
- Primavera P6
- Asta Powerproject
- Microsoft Project
- Advanced Excel
You will also demonstrate:
- Knowledge of construction methodologies and project delivery processes.
- Understanding of tender documentation, contract requirements and programme management principles.
- Awareness of project management methodologies and best practice planning techniques.
