About the role

At Balfour Beatty, we're shaping the future of infrastructure and construction. We are looking for a motivated and commercially aware Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, supporting the successful delivery of building and civil engineering projects.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing project costs, maximising value, and supporting the commercial performance of projects from inception through to completion. Working alongside experienced commercial professionals, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.

This role is ideal for someone who is chartered or working towards professional membership with the RICS, ICES, or CIOB, and who is looking to develop their career within a leading infrastructure business.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing and controlling project costs in line with company procedures and governance requirements.
  • Measuring, recording, and valuing works in accordance with relevant rules and procedures.
  • Supporting the preparation of cost reconciliations, cost/value reporting, and commercial documentation.
  • Interpreting specifications and drawings to prepare measurements, estimates, bills of quantities, and schedules of rates.
  • Assisting with procurement activities, including gathering and managing supply chain information and documentation.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting commercial negotiations and agreeing measurements and valuations with subcontractors.
  • Reviewing project programmes and planning commercial activities to support project delivery.
  • Using the company's ERP system to manage commercial information and reporting.
  • Contributing to the development of less experienced team members and supporting a collaborative team environment.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Degree qualification (BSc or MSc) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent industry experience.
  • Previous commercial experience within the construction or civil engineering industry.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good understanding of commercial and contractual principles.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Progressing towards or holding professional membership with RICS, CIOB, or ICES.
  • Experience working on infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of estimating, procurement, cost management, and project controls.
