Operations Supervisor

We are currently looking to recruit an engaging and proactive Operations Supervisor to join our Operations Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for front line leadership and supervision of Port Operatives and Agency Workers. The focus of the role will be to continually improve our operations through planning, organising and leading colleagues, ensuring all operations are enhanced and conducted in line with the Port’s policies, procedures, HSE guidance and legislation.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Supervise Port Operatives and Agency Workers providing effective and pro-active front-line supervision and performance management.
• You will be responsible for ensuring Port Operatives and Agency Workers are carrying out their duties safely and efficiently. You will actively look for and promote improvement opportunities.
• Comply with the roles and responsibilities of ‘Local Management’ as outlined in Shoreham Port’s Health and Safety Policy.
• Lead in mentoring, monitoring, and training new colleagues in their allocated duties.
• Support the Operations Management Team with performance management through the effective front-line management of day-to-day operational matters, such as but not limited to toolbox talks, team briefs, timekeeping, return to work interviews.
• Monitor performance of vessels and proactively respond to changes to maximize the performance of the vessels and terminal operations.
• You will assist with visiting customers, proactively responding to customer requirements.

Key Skills

• Ability to lead a team and to conduct team briefings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience in a logistics environment.
• Ability to demonstrate a proactive approach to Health and Safety.
• IOSH Managing Safely and qualified First Aider (or must achieve qualifications within 6 months of role).
• Familiarity of crane and hoist operations advantageous.
• Highly motivated with attention to detail.
• IT literate. Using both PC and mobile devices.
• Safely walk, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel as necessary to perform the job duties.
• Ability to work safely in a high-risk environment.
• Flexible attitude and approach to working.
