Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO)
North Tyneside Council
We’re looking for an inspiring and forward-thinking CDIO (Chief Digital information Officer) to continually shape how technology improves lives across one of the UK’s exemplar Local Authorities.
This is more than a senior technology role- it's an opportunity to lead digital transformation at a strategic level, influencing how services are designed, delivered, and experienced by residents, partners, and colleagues.
You’ll work closely with senior leaders, elected members, and stakeholders to ensure digital innovation drives better outcomes, delivers value for money, and supports long-term strategic vision.
This role provides a unique opportunity to influence and deliver internally and externally, requiring an individual who can lead outward facing initiatives that have direct impact on 215,000 residents across the borough. A real prospect to shape modern citizen focused digital services.
Reporting to the Director of Digital, Customer and Corporate Services, you will:
- Lead and deliver the Digital Strategy: ensuring it supports organisational priorities and future ambitions
- Provide trusted advice to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership team, and elected members on digital, technology and cyber security
- Shape modern, efficient services, ensuring quality, value for money and continuous improvement
- Build and lead inclusive, high-performing teams, creating an environment where everyone can thrive
- Drive innovation and transformation, identifying new opportunities, funding models, and commercial approaches
- Ensure strong governance and risk management across all digital and IT services
- Take full accountability for performance, budgets and service delivery across all digital teams including print and mail services
We’re seeking a confident, collaborative leader who can operate at pace and influence at the highest level.
- Significant experience as a CIO, IT Director or Senior Digital Leader in a complex organisation
- Strong strategic thinking and highly developed change leadership capability
- Deep understanding of digital technologies, cyber security, and governance
- Experience working within political or highly regulated environments
- The ability to build trusted relationships and influence diverse stakeholders
- A track record of delivering transformation, efficiency and continuous improvement
- A leadership style that is visible, inclusive and empowering
Committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation that reflects the local community. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. We believe diverse perspectives lead to better decisions, stronger innovation, and more effective services.
If you need any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, we’ll work with you to make it easy and accessible.
The role is hybrid and can support compressed working patterns
