About the Role

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Ranger to join the team at Rother Valley Country Park.

The Ranger Service is responsible for managing approximately 750 acres of parkland, supporting a safe, efficient and welcoming environment for visitors.

As part of the Ranger team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the park, ensuring high standards of maintenance, safety and customer service are always delivered.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Carry out regular inspections of parkland, buildings and facilities
  • Assist with grounds maintenance and repairs to maintain high standards
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors
  • Check permits, tickets and proof of payment
  • Respond to incidents and support emergency situations
  • Work with police and partner agencies on safety and security matters
  • Support delivery of events and activities
  • Engage with communities, schools and voluntary groups
  • Supervise seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Open and close the park and facilities as a key holder.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working in green space or land management
  • Knowledge of environmental and recreational issues
  • Experience working with the public
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Basic ICT skills (email, Word, spreadsheets).

You will be:

  • A confident communicator
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative
  • Flexible and able to work a rota including weekends and bank holidays
  • Able to travel across the borough.

Qualifications

  • NQF Level 2 (e.g. GCSE Grade 4–9, NVQ Level 2) or equivalent experience.

  • Working Pattern: Includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays; longer shifts in summer
  • Uniform: Provided.
