This is a key role where you will support management of information requests such as data protection requests including subject access, as well as freedom of information & environmental information requests. Your work will make a real difference to promoting transparency of personal and commercial data whilst ensuring legal implications are considered and applied.

The Opportunity

In the role of Information Governance Officer, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:

Process complex and highly sensitive Subject Access Requests, ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

  • Provide clear and accurate data protection advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply a strong understanding of the Data Protection Act in various scenarios.
  • Handle sensitive information securely, maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Perform redaction of documents to protect personal data and/or commercially sensitive data before disclosure.
  • Advise on and manage disclosures, ensuring they meet legal and organisational standards.
  • Respond to data protection, freedom of information, and environmental information requests effectively.

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of the Data Protection Act and its practical application.
  • Proven experience in a role that involves working within legislative and standards frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to securely handle sensitive information with precision and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in redacting sensitive information from documents.
  • Experience in advising on data disclosures and providing general data protection guidance.

Essential Experience:

  • Familiarity with responding to data protection requests, including freedom of information and environmental information requests.

Essential Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to provide clear and concise advice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to navigate complex data protection scenarios.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating maturity and responsibility.
  • High level of organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
