The ALS Coordinator will Coordinate the support for learners in cross college vocational areas with high needs funding (HNF), an educational health care plan (EHCP) or in receipt of additional learning support (ALS). They will line manage and support the professional development of a team of Inclusion Assistants to ensure the highest levels of inclusion, attainment, achievement and attendance for all young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across NHC and HLD. They also Collaborate with cross college vocational areas to ensure the outcomes and specifications detailed in Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs), are robustly embedded for all learners.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Recruit, induct and ensure the effective utilisation of the Inclusion Assistant team including the coordination of cover, as required.
- Observe, coach and mentor the Inclusion Assistant team to ensure highly effective provision of support for students with SEND.
- Interview and undertake an assessment of needs for all learners who require additional learning support.
- Develop and share a range of highly effective strategies which promote independence in learning, including the use of assistive technology to support the diverse range of additional learning needs. Tailor these for each individual in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), support plan, initial assessment and individual targets.
- Coordinate and assist with personal care requirements, mobility needs and the administration of medication, in line with individual needs and college protocols.
- Maintain accurate, timely departmental records and contribute to the setting and monitoring of individual targets, including the review of EHCP outcomes as part of the annual review process.
- Provide occasional cover and specialist support for students, when required.
- Liaise with other professionals, parents / carers regarding individual support needs and where necessary organise or chair meetings with internal and external partners to review provision.
- Access training and professional development activities to ensure you continually remaining up to date and gaining new skills and knowledge, including SEND specific options.
- Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and college policies for SEND, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding.
General duties

- To promote with staff and students the importance of safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults they are responsible for and come into contact with.
