Gallery Assistant – 2 posts

University of Oxford

About the role

The History of Science Museum is looking for Gallery Assistants to help create a warm, welcoming and memorable experience for every visitor. You'll be the friendly face of the Museum, answering questions, sharing information and helping people make the most of their visit.

You'll help keep the galleries safe and running smoothly by supporting day-to-day operations, preparing gallery spaces, assisting with events and encouraging donations. You may also work in the museum shop from time to time.

These are part-time, fixed-term posts until 31 December 2027:

  • Post 1: 26.32 hours per week (0.72 FTE)
  • Post 2: Variable hours (hours will vary each week)

Working patterns will be discussed at interview. Shifts will fall between Tuesday and Sunday, in line with the Museum's opening days.

The successful candidates will be required to complete a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

About you

You'll enjoy working with people and providing excellent customer service. You'll be friendly, confident and able to communicate with a wide range of visitors, while remaining calm and professional in a busy environment.

You'll be reliable, observant and able to use your initiative. You'll be comfortable using a computer and receiving information electronically.

Experience in a customer-facing role, such as retail, hospitality or front of house, would be an advantage, as would an interest in history or science and experience handling cash.
