Make a real difference in one of the UK's most historic and vibrant cities.

York is a fantastic place to live and work. Rich in history, culture and character, it offers an exceptional quality of life, a strong sense of community and excellent connectivity.

We're looking for passionate and motivated Social Workers to join our Adult Social Care & Community Team (ASCCT) at City of York Council. Whether you're an experienced practitioner or completing your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE), this is an exciting opportunity to develop your career while making a meaningful difference to the lives of adults across the city.

About the Role

As a Social Worker within ASCCT, you'll deliver high-quality, person-centred social work using a strengths-based approach. You'll carry out Care Act assessments, work collaboratively with individuals, carers and partner agencies, and support people to achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.

You'll manage a varied caseload while working as part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team committed to delivering excellent outcomes for York residents.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Undertaking Care Act Assessments to identify eligible needs and agreed outcomes.
  • Developing person-centred support plans in partnership with individuals, carers and wider support networks.
  • Managing a diverse caseload, ensuring timely and proportionate interventions.
  • Participating in the team's duty rota, responding to urgent enquiries and safeguarding concerns where required.
  • Working collaboratively with health colleagues and partner organisations to provide coordinated, strengths-based support.

About You

You'll be a qualified Social Worker with a sound understanding of the legislation that underpins adult social care, including:

The Care Act 2014

The Mental Capacity Act 2005

The Human Rights Act 1998

To apply, you'll need:

A recognised Social Work qualification.

Registration with Social Work England.

We welcome applications from ASYE candidates, who will receive the support and development needed to begin a successful career with us.

Working Arrangements

  • Whilst York has adopted a hybrid working model, office presence is required, a minimum of 2 days per week.

You'll join a collaborative team of experienced professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred support. We place a strong emphasis on learning, reflective practice and continuous professional development.

Our modern office provides an excellent working environment, including an onsite subsidised café operated by the national charity United Response and stunning views of York's iconic city walls.

To apply you will need a degree in Social Work and be registered with Social Work England (SWE). Currently we are not licenced to sponsor employees for visas, therefore are unable to offer sponsorship for these roles.

This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

Hybrid working arrangements can be considered for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
