Our client, a leading and rapidly expanding accountancy and business advisory firm, is seeking an experienced Accounting Senior Manager to join their Bolton office. The Opportunity

As an Accounting Senior Manager, you will become a valued member of the senior management team, taking ownership of a portfolio of established clients while leading, mentoring, and developing a talented accounts team.

You will be instrumental in driving service excellence, supporting practice modernisation initiatives, and identifying opportunities to enhance client relationships and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

Client Portfolio Management

  • Manage a portfolio of established SME clients across a range of sectors
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships
  • Deliver proactive business advice and identify advisory opportunities
  • Lead client meetings and act as a trusted business adviser
  • Support the onboarding and development of new client relationships

Technical Accounting & Compliance

  • Statutory accounts
  • Management accounts
  • Corporation tax returns
  • VAT returns
  • Personal tax returns
  • Confirmation Statements (CS01)
  • Ensure compliance deadlines are met across the portfolio
  • Provide technical support on complex accounting and taxation matters
  • Deliver advice on tax planning, remuneration strategies, pension contributions and capital assets
  • Maintain high-quality standards across all client deliverables

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop senior and junior team members
  • Conduct work reviews and provide ongoing technical guidance
  • Support training and professional development initiatives
  • Drive employee engagement and performance standards
  • Act as a role model and positive influence within the wider practice

Practice Growth & Improvement

  • Support business development and client growth initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings
  • Lead process improvement and standardisation projects
  • Support implementation of new technologies and cloud-based accounting solutions
  • Contribute to strategic planning and practice development

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Minimum 5+ years' post-qualified experience (PQE)
  • Recent UK accountancy practice experience is essential
  • Proven experience managing your own client portfolio
  • Experience leading and developing teams within a practice environment

Technical Skills

  • Statutory accounts preparation
  • Corporation tax compliance
  • Personal tax matters
  • VAT
  • Management accounts
  • Thorough understanding of FRS 102 reporting standards
  • Experience using Xero (essential)
  • Dext
  • CCH
  • Similar accountancy software platforms
