Our client is looking for an experienced Highways Engineer for 6 months, potentially longer, to work on a multitude of projects/schemes. They wish to appoint an individual to assist in the delivery of transport schemes based in York.

In this pivotal role you will be supporting our client and will be working in conjunction with site engineers, inspectors, supervisors and project managers to deliver work as required.

Working on feasibility studies/detailed designs on road safety schemes – safer routes to schools, accident cluster sites, and danger reduction as well as active travel schemes.

For the above schemes the role would involve reviewing the site, considering the main issues/problems and then coming up with a number of potential options in accordance with current guidance together with preliminary cost estimates.

These studies, and their recommended solutions, will form the basis of a programme of schemes to be developed through detailed design stage, public consultation through to implementation.

The role is full time and hybrid but you will be needed on various sites in York, so circa two days a week based in York. The rate of pay is £22.21 per hour.

Requirements for the role

  • Good understanding of design principles, design standards and contract and tendering procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of Method of Measurement for Highway Works and estimating.
  • Previous experience of Highways/Highways Maintenance schemes.
  • Ideally experience of designing of Cycle Ways and Footway Schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Previous experience of Site Supervision, Project Management and Highways Design (is desirable).
  • Experience of working for a local authority (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong CAD/AutoCAD skills.
