Band 8A Clinical Scientist LCMS and Biochemistry

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic HCPC registered Clinical Scientist with Part 1 FRCPath to join our team at Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services. BSPS is a large network of NHS laboratories serving 6 NHS hospital sites: Ashford & St Peter’s, Frimley Park, Royal Berkshire, Royal Surrey, East Surrey Hospital and Wexham Park.

This is a 0.4 who time equivalent (2 days a week) fixed term post for one year to cover maternity leave in our LCMS section which is part of our Specialist Biochemistry Services Department. This provides a really exciting opportunity to get involved in an evolving LCMS department.

The post holder will be employed by the Royal Surrey County Foundation Trust in Guildford and will be part of the broader BSPS clinical team, a wonderfully friendly, cohesive and dynamic team that cover our 6 hospital sites.

The biochemistry department is strong clinically and analytically with an enthusiastic and supportive team of able chemical pathologists, clinical scientists and biomedical scientists providing a broad range of services including specialist analytical (LC-MSMS, ICP-MS, immunoassay, POCT), interpretive and EQA services. Clinical services run by the department include bariatric, renal stone and lipid OPD clinics and a clinical investigation unit. The Department is a Supraregional Assay Service Laboratory for Trace Elements and Peptide Hormones. It provides External Quality Assessment Schemes for trace elements, peptide hormones and Point of Care Testing. It also has a cardiovascular biomarkers lab. The Department works closely with the University of Surrey, which brings together a variety of analytical and clinical groups within the University and NHS.
