Role Description
The Ships Agent / Stock Control role is a full-time, on-site position based in Goole. This role involves coordinating vessel arrivals and departures, liaising with ship owners, captains, port authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth port operations. The Ships Agent / Stock Controller will maintain accurate stock records, monitor cargo movements, and oversee documentation related to cargo handling, warehousing, and port agency services. Daily tasks include preparing and checking shipping documents, updating inventory systems, handling customer queries, and supporting operational teams with timely information. The role also requires adherence to company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures and participation in inspections and audits as needed.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong organizational and stock control skills, including accurate record-keeping, inventory monitoring, and attention to detail.
- Candidates should possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with customers, vessel crews, port authorities, and internal teams.
- Candidates should possess proficiency in common office software and stock management systems, with the ability to learn company-specific IT tools.
- Candidates should possess problem-solving skills and the ability to work under time pressure, including prioritizing tasks and responding to changing operational demands.
- Relevant experience in shipping, logistics, warehousing, or a similar operational environment is beneficial but not essential, full training will be provided.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends to meet vessel schedules, are advantageous.
- Formal training or qualifications in logistics, maritime studies, or a related field are an asset but not mandatory.
