An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Permanent Full Time Biomedical Science Assistant (Band 2) within Pathology Reception in the Blood Sciences Department.

As a suitably trained individual you will work in a busy, modern reception/laboratory undertaking data entry and initial processing of patient samples in supporting the Associate Practitioners and Biomedical Scientists.

Duties also include answering telephone requests and additional clerical duties.

Proficiency in the use of keyboard together with good communication and team-working skills are required. Also essential is an aptitude in both numeracy and literacy together with the ability to work accurately.

Candidates will be expected to work variable shifts on a 24/7 rota (including Nights, Weekends and Bank Holidays) and will be required to work on the Barnsley site in order to deliver the necessary service.

Pre-analytical processing of samples to include the receipt, preparation and processing. Store, retrieve and dispose of biological material according to the relevant procedures.

Deal with direct queries from medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.

Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.

Promote and maintain a high standard of relevant education and training.

Adhere to all Trust and departmental policies.

Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input/interrogate test results of others.

May be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area.
