An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, based at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre (Freshney Place, Grimsby) for a Medical Laboratory Assistant / Phlebotomist position

  • 1x 18 hour per week position
  • 1x 30 hour per week position

This is an important role supporting the Pathology Department and the Phlebotomy Service based at DPoW and Grimsby Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). Suiting individuals who enjoy a varied workload. Experience of computer data input is essential, and applicants should be able to demonstrate current IT skills.

Candidates should be literate and numerate. GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English would be advantageous, as would previous laboratory or healthcare experience and familiarity with medical terminology.

Laboratory / CDC Shift Pattern

  • 18 hours (3x 6 hour shifts) including lates (14:00 - 20:00) and days (08:00 - 14:00).
  • 30 hours (5x 6 hour shifts) including lates (14:00 - 20:00) and days (08:00 - 14:00).
  • For both positions, there is a requirement to participate in the out-of-hours rota, including late shifts, weekends and bank holidays.

The successful candidates will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory team based at DPoW Hospital and at the Grimsby CDC working in a small team, following appropriate training and completion of the relevant in-house competencies.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant / Phlebotomist, your main role will be to support the laboratory in the processing and analysis of laboratory samples and the collection of blood samples from patients following phlebotomy training.
