Drug and Alcohol Mental Health Nurse

To work within the Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service providing structured recovery focused interventions within the Aspire Community Reintegration model utilising a phased and layered treatment approach.

The post holder will carry out comprehensive strength based assessments in order to plan and deliver recovery interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of those relevant to the area of service

in which they work. He/she will act as a case manager to a defined allocated caseload of service users under the supervision of a designated Senior Drug and Alcohol Nurse within the team.

To link service users with recovery support interventions such as access to support with education, training, employment, debt management, housing, sports and diversionary activities and other wrap

around services, building strong links with other statutory and non-statutory organisations to increase physical and economic capital for service users. To work in cooperation with mutual aid groups, providing facilitated access and assertive linkage to these networks. The post holder will support patients with co-existing conditions and offer wider

support to staff with patients who may have lower level mental health issues.

To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team using effective communication skills to interact positively with both service users and professionals in order to provide a range of services to problematic drinkers and drug takers with poor mental health, including harm minimisation approaches, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, recovery planning and interventions, health education and promotion, detoxification programmes , pre and post-test counselling for blood

borne viruses (BBV’s), brief interventions and group work.

The post holder will carry out comprehensive strength-based assessments.

To conduct risk/needs assessment and develop and implement risk management plans in line with policy and procedure, liaising with other health and social care professionals where necessary. To

review risk/needs assessment as required.

To provide direct care and case management to an allocated case load under the supervision of a Senior Drug and Alcohol Nurse within the team.

To work with the patients who has additional unmet mental health needs and look to link them back into community mental health services. To link with the inpatient mental health wards offering support for patients who use drug and alcohol and also offer support and guidance to ward staff.

To be a link for other Aspire staff members around mental health concerns.
