This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, innovative and dynamic Environmental Health Practitioner to take the role of technical lead in our Business Regulation Team. The team deals with a range of environmental health regulatory functions involving commercial businesses, public and open spaces. The successful candidate will focus on commercial pollution prevention and control. The role involves proactive and reactive interventions and measures which affect the development and operational phases of businesses. These are applied through statutory, policy based and bespoke processes and projects, several being led by the post holder. All aspects of regulation, from advice to formal enforcement and legal action are included. This is very much a team role, which involves mentoring and supervising specialist officers as well as providing managerial support to the Team Manager. Experience in these areas would be an advantage, though suitable candidates could include someone wanting to progress their career and develop their leadership skills in a challenging yet rewarding environment. You will need to have sound post-qualification environmental protection experience, including urban planning advice, measurement and instrumentation, investigation and enforcement of nuisance and related regimes and dealing with complex cases. A working knowledge of current environmental health legislation together with problem solving, analytical and organisational skills is essential. As a confident and insightful communicator, you’ll be comfortable liaising with Councillors and internal and external customers as well as working with other partners to deliver a high-quality service. Excellent analytical, investigatory and reporting skills are required to make this role a success.
