An established and rapidly growing Building Services contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its in-house design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer to play a key role in delivering high-profile commercial, healthcare, education, residential, industrial, and data centre projects from concept through to completion.

Working closely with project delivery teams, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners, you will lead the mechanical design process, provide technical expertise, and support the successful delivery of projects across the UK.

Requirements

Lead the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems including:

  • HVAC
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Public health services
  • Domestic water services
  • Above and below ground drainage

Produce and review detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical reports.

Develop designs from RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 5 and construction.

Ensure designs comply with current legislation, regulations, British Standards, and industry best practice.

Carry out thermal modelling, pipe sizing, ductwork sizing, pressure loss calculations, and equipment selection.

Coordinate designs with electrical, public health, structural, and architectural disciplines.

Attend client, consultant, and project meetings as the lead mechanical design representative.

Provide technical support to project managers, procurement teams, and site-based delivery teams.

Review subcontractor and supplier technical submissions.

Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers within the design team.

Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining compliance and performance requirements.

Assist with tender submissions and technical bid support when required.

Essential

  • Degree or HNC/HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within Building Services Design.
  • Proven experience delivering commercial and industrial MEP projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
  • Proficient in industry software such as:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit MEP
    • Hevacomp
    • IES VE
    • Cymap
    • MagiCAD (desirable)
  • Excellent understanding of current Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and British Standards.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
