About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Planning Manager to join our Major Projects team, based in Derby, supporting the delivery of a highly complex, secure infrastructure programme at the Rolls-Royce site in Raynesway.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role from RIBA Stage 2 through to construction and handover, shaping programme strategy on a nationally significant scheme. As part of a long-term, phased programme driven by increasing MOD demand and the AUKUS agreement, you will contribute to the delivery of enabling works, new manufacturing and office facilities, and the redevelopment of existing industrial buildings across the site.
Working as a key member of the onsite planning team, you’ll be at the heart of a flagship partnership, helping deliver critical infrastructure in one of the UK’s most secure and technically challenging environments.

- Report to the Non-Fissile Planning Lead, supporting delivery across the programme.
- Lead the strategic planning and scheduling of multiple projects within the Non-Fissile scope, ensuring fully compliant programmes.
- Collaborate closely with the Fissile Programme to ensure alignment across interfaces and dependencies.
- Work with the Project Team to develop, manage and maintain robust NEC-compliant programmes across all project stages.
- Integrate Non-Fissile programmes into the wider project master schedule.
- Build and manage strong relationships with the Client, Design Partners and Supply Chain.
- Identify, assess and manage risk and uncertainty within programmes, clearly articulating time impacts.
- Support the planning and project controls strategy across the project.
- Drive digital collaboration and adoption of planning tools and processes.
- Lead, support and develop the planning team, from graduates through to senior planners.
Who we're looking for
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a Planning Manager, leading teams and managing key stakeholder relationships.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Good understanding of complex MEP systems and commissioning processes.
- Demonstrable experience delivering the planning function within an NEC environment, including programme submissions.
- Strong analytical capability across project controls, including critical path analysis, float management, time risk, QSRA and earned value.
- Commercial awareness, with an understanding of the financial aspects of project planning.
- Skilled in a range of planning techniques and tools, with the ability to apply them effectively in complex environments.
- Advanced user of Primavera P6 for programme development, management and reporting.
- Relevant qualification (OND, HND or Degree) in construction, engineering or a related discipline (desirable).
