About The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Unit Manager to take full operational leadership of our Chipping Sodbury Quarry. This is a pivotal role for a hands-on leader who thrives in a heavy industrial environment and is passionate about driving excellence across safety, production, and commercial performance. You will be accountable for the end-to-end success of the quarry, leading from the front to create a high-performing, safety-first culture while maximising output, efficiency, and profitability. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact—optimising quarry operations, developing your team, and continuously improving performance in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead, direct and manage the operational team to achieve performance objectives
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Deliver optimum production levels in line with commercial demand

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Champion a strong safety culture, operating to the highest health & safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with Heidelberg Materials Health & Safety and Environmental plans
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives across SHE performance

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure adherence to all statutory legislation and company policies
  • Maintain high standards across operational, environmental and quality procedures

Performance & Commercial Focus

  • Manage operational costs while maximising efficiency and output
  • Work closely with logistics to deliver excellent customer service
  • Collaborate with technical teams to maintain product quality

Business & People Management

  • Analyse performance data to identify improvement opportunities
  • Ensure teams are fully resourced, trained and developed
  • Support succession planning and talent development within the business

About You

  • Proven leadership experience within quarrying, aggregates, or a heavy industrial environment, with a strong track record of delivering operational performance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead from the front, driving a high-performance, safety-first culture across site teams
  • Strong operational and commercial acumen, with the ability to balance production targets, cost control, and profitability
  • Passionate about health, safety, and environmental excellence, with a commitment to continuous improvement and best practice
  • Skilled in developing, mentoring, and inspiring teams, building capability and succession within your operation
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
  • NVQ/QCF Level 5 or 7 in SHE Quarry Operations (or equivalent)
