What is the job role?

We are currently seeking an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join a small multi-disciplined team of engineers to be based in our Inverness office. This role is office based but will require occasional travel to other office and site locations as required.

This position is responsible for actively participating in the design, development, testing, and production of existing & new Gael Force Group products, as well as producing design, test, build & customer documentation. This position will be focussed on products and systems integrating mechanical with electrical and electronic engineering in the challenging dynamic marine environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specification of product requirements
  • Participate in evaluation and selection of design concepts
  • Engineering evaluation, support and development of existing range of products
  • Application/generation of innovative ideas in designs
  • Detail design work including design calculations
  • Build up technical database for all design calculations
  • Undertake relevant modelling, simulation and testing of designs
  • Generate engineering drawings for internal and external use
  • Managing drawing numbering, updates and revisions
  • Production and maintenance of supporting internal technical documentation for production, servicing and support of products
  • Production and maintenance of external documentation such as Operation and Maintenance Manuals
  • Develop and undertake product development testing, including production testing and reporting
  • Improvements and developments to manufacturing methods
  • Prepare and amend bills of materials for new and updated products
  • Support production of project programs and budgets
  • Ensure compliance with applicable external Standards
  • Work to all relevant Company Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain clear, concise and accurate records
  • Visiting customer sites as and when necessary
  • Ensure that products meet and or exceed customer expectations
  • Liaise with all internal and external stakeholders as required, including Production, Quality and Sales teams, Suppliers, Partners and Customers
  • Support Sales & Marketing activities through assisting in product literature/website updates from a technical perspective
  • Serve as the technical expert to team members
  • Support creation of detailed engineering processes, and procedures
  • Complete critical engineering design reviews (as required) of any in-service product changes, completing engineering calculation as required, to ensure all design change risks are understood and mitigated

What you’ll need

Essential

  • Degree qualification in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience.
  • Experience of product specification.
  • Experience with CAD packages.
  • Excellent IT Skills.
  • Organisational and management skills.
  • Time management and strong organisational qualities.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home occasionally.
  • Excellent demonstrable writing and communications skills.
  • Good initiative and ability to work under low level of supervision.
  • Good team player.
  • Driving licence.

Desirable

  • Aquaculture knowledge
  • Offshore marine environment knowledge
  • Ability to support & guide junior team members
