We have an exceptional opportunity for a SHE Manager to join our Lowestoft site at a pivotal time in our operational journey. In this senior leadership role, you will define and lead our site-wide Safety, Health and Environmental strategy, ensuring the safe, compliant and sustainable operation of our manufacturing environment.
This is a highly visible role where you will partner with senior leadership and play a critical part in protecting our people while enabling operational excellence. You will shape how safety, health and environmental standards are understood, managed and embedded across the site, supporting continuous improvement and long-term business performance.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the development and delivery of the site SHE strategy aligned to Group standards and objectives
- Champion a strong SHE culture through visible leadership, engagement, and behavioural safety initiatives
- Act as the site’s subject matter expert on all SHE-related matters
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all UK SHE legislation and internal standards
- Lead risk assessments, hazard identification processes, and implementation of effective controls
- Maintain robust systems for environmental management, waste handling, and emergency preparedness
Incident Management & Reporting
- Own and manage the site incident reporting and investigation process
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventative actions
- Report incidents to regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders as required
Audit & Assurance
- Lead internal and external SHE audits, inspections, and regulatory visits (announced and unannounced)
- Ensure timely closure of audit findings and continuous improvement actions
- Maintain site readiness for regulatory and corporate audits at all times
Training & Capability Development
- Define SHE training needs and ensure effective delivery across all levels of the site
- Coach and support leaders to embed SHE accountability within their teams
- Promote ongoing professional development in SHE awareness and practices
Continuous Improvement
- Drive SHE improvement initiatives aligned with operational excellence programmes
- Provide SHE input into capital investment and engineering projects
- Support cross-functional improvement projects ensuring SHE risks are appropriately managed
Communication & Engagement
- Ensure effective communication of SHE performance, risks, and initiatives across all levels
- Chair the monthly site SHE committee and drive follow-up actions
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
- SHE audit compliance and closure rates
- Environmental incident and non-compliance reduction
- SHE training completion and competency levels
- Progress against site SHE improvement plan
About you
You are a proactive and forward-thinking SHE leader who thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment. You are confident influencing at senior levels and able to balance compliance with enabling operational performance and continuous improvement.
You bring strong technical expertise combined with excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills. You are naturally collaborative, pragmatic and passionate about instilling a culture of safety, accountability and sustainability across the organisation.
What you will bring
- Significant experience in a SHE, health & safety or environmental role within a manufacturing or operational environment
- Strong knowledge of UK SHE legislation and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to design and implement SHE frameworks, governance and control processes
- Experience advising senior stakeholders and influencing decision making at leadership level
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate risk into operational and business impact
- Experience leading teams and driving high performance through others
- A proactive, delivery focused approach with strong problem-solving capability
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across operational and functional teams
- Desirable experience includes NEBOSH Diploma, IEMA qualification, food manufacturing experience and knowledge of CDM or continuous improvement methodologies
