Company Overview

Burnside Football Academy is a football programme run within Burnside College school in Wallsend, in partnership with NE Coaching Co. The programme allows students to combine athletic prowess with academic studies, receiving daily coaching from NECC coaches alongside their studies. Entering it's third year, we are keen to build on a successful first two seasons.

Purpose

To lead the delivery of a high-quality in-school football programme at Burnside Academy, supporting all pupils in their education and development, while leading, mentoring and developing the coaches delivering NE Coaching Co’s programmes on site. Out of academic hours, to support the delivery of NE Coaching Co’s wider programme as directed by the company directors.

Coaching & Programme Delivery

Lead the delivery of the boys’ and girls’ academy programme at Burnside Academy

Manage and deliver the Development Player Programme

Support the delivery of the outreach programme

Actively recruit players across all programmes

Monitor, supervise and evaluate the Academy games programme

Plan, deliver and review coaching sessions in line with the agreed coaching syllabus

Continuously evolve and develop the football programme at Burnside Academy, in line with best practice and the changing needs of pupils

Leading & Developing the Coaching Team

Support, monitor and evaluate contracted coaches working across the company

Brief and mentor coaches and assistant coaches ahead of sessions to ensure consistency of delivery

Assist the company directors in developing NE Coaching Co coaches’ CPD, coach education and personal development plans

Contribute to coaches’ development reviews, recommending areas for improvement and training needs

Act as the first point of escalation for coaching queries and day-to-day issues at Burnside Academy

Player & Pupil Development

Liaise with and support academic staff in developing academy players within their academic studies

Input and record all relevant data required for monitoring player progress

Liaise with parents as and when required, providing feedback on player progress and next steps

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the Company’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policy is adhered to at all times
  • Work with Burnside Academy’s Designated Safeguarding Lead to promote safe working practice
  • Hold and maintain a valid Enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly in line with company and school procedures
  • Reporting & Administration
  • Report to the company directors on a daily basis
  • Take part in all relevant meetings, including in-service training and parents’ meetings, at the request of the company directors
  • Maintain confidentiality of company, school and pupil information at all times
  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Show a continuous commitment to personal development through relevant coaching bodies and courses
  • Attend at least 5 hours of in-service/CPD training per year, renewing First Aid and Safeguarding certification as required

General

  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all programmes
  • Represent NE Coaching Co and Burnside Academy to a high standard at all times
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the company directors

Person Specification

Requirements

  • UEFA C Licence (minimum)
  • FA Safeguarding Children certificate
  • Emergency First Aid certificate
  • Enhanced DBS disclosure (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience coaching children/young people in a school, club or academy setting
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
  • Excellent communication skills with players, parents and staff
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions
  • Enthusiastic, reliable and a positive role model
  • Flexible approach to working hours across a 7-day week, including some evenings/weekends
  • Commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

Desirable

  • UEFA B Licence or above
  • FA Youth Modules
  • Experience leading, mentoring or supervising other coaches
  • Experience working alongside school/academic staff
  • Full, clean driving licence
