About the School

We are working with a specialist SEN school supporting young adults aged 16–25 with complex learning needs, including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), physical disabilities, sensory needs and associated medical requirements.

Their provision focuses on developing independence, communication, life skills and preparing learners for adulthood within a nurturing, person-centred environment.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support young adults with complex learning needs both in the classroom and during community-based learning activities.

This is a hands-on role requiring personal care and physical support, as well as active engagement in learning activities tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to learners with complex needs
• Assist in the planning and delivery of personalised learning programmes
• Support communication using strategies such as PECS, Makaton, AAC or visual timetables
• Deliver personal care, including toileting, feeding and changing, in line with care plans and dignity protocols
• Support students with mobility needs, including hoisting where required (training provided)
• Monitor and record progress towards EHCP targetsPromote independence, life skills and community participationWork collaboratively with teachers, therapists and external professionals
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment

What we’re looking for

• Experience supporting children or young adults with SEN, particularly complex or profound needs
• Comfortable providing personal care
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
