About The Role

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Engineer to join and support the growing Scottish business. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and execution of piling projects, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

There are several projects in BBGE’s pipeline spread over the breadth of Scotland that require the support of a Senior Contract Engineer to ensure their successful delivery.

Role purpose: Accountable for supporting the management of site contracts, encompassing contract performance, safety compliance, progress monitoring and reporting, client engagement, design coordination, and team leadership. The role is focused on delivering excellence in safety, quality, sustainability, and efficiency, in

alignment with the Balfour Beatty Business Management System.

While Scotland wide flexibility is expected for future projects, every effort will be made to align projects with the candidate’s geographical location whenever possible.

While the role is site based, there will be requirements during the pre-construction phases of projects to work from the Scotland head office in Motherwell with the flexibility of working from home.

What you'll be doing

The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the civil piling aspects of a project, including planning, design, and construction phases for the piling works.
  • Develop and review project plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and project updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to industry standards, best practices, and company policies.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee and coordinate internal teams and subcontractors to ensure effective resource management.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with contractual obligations, design specifications, drawings, and the Project Management Plan.
  • Develop and review construction method statements to promote safe and efficient execution of works.
  • Prepare and manage all site documentation required for project delivery, including PMP, PVPMP, ITPs, and Work Package Plans (RAMS).
  • Contribute to project planning and scheduling to optimize delivery timelines. Monitor productivity and delays, analyse trends, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor progress, report performance, and ensure achievement of project milestones within assigned responsibilities.
  • Proactively identify and resolve engineering and construction-related issues.
  • Manage construction records, including O&M manuals and as-built drawings.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities and experience are required to fulfil the requirements of the role:

  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally;
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools, such as Excel / Word / PowerPoint and project management software;
  • 5+ years’ experience in the construction industry, with a proven record of successfully managing and delivering civil engineering projects on various scales;
  • Ability to manage multiple teams efficiently and ty to manage multiple scheme costs;
  • Foster a positive and supportive work environment that prioritises the mental health and well-being of all team members by implementing initiatives, providing access to relevant resources and support services and encouraging open communication in a safe and understanding space;
  • Lead, motivate, and communicate to ensure tasks are completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality;
  • SSSTS or SMSTS;
  • CSCS card.

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

  • Experience working for a piling, ground engineering or civils subcontractor;
  • Civil Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
